Hamburger Steak Patties with Gravy

Sometimes, all you need is a hamburger steak with gravy over rice. This is a delicious hearty dish that can be accommodated for the #gluten-free folks in your life.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup bread crumbs (gluten free is good)
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 2 onions, finely sliced
  • 1 8 oz. package of sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (can use gluten free)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 balls, and flatten into patties. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the onions and mushrooms in the butter until translucent. Remove from pan.

Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.

Fry the patties in the leftover delicious God-provided butter. When they are to the texture you prefer, remove them and throw the onions and mushrooms back in the pan.

Now sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Gradually mix in the beef broth and sherry. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.

I served mine with Ralston Farms Golden Rice. I like it sometimes for a quick-cooking rice. Their basmati rice is really good, too, but I was lazy and just grabbed the other. It was perfection.
